GAVE is a government programme that supports the development and introduction of climate-neutral fuels in the Dutch transport sector. The programme's most important task is to support the implementation of the European Renewable Energy Directive into Dutch national legislation with respect to biofuels. This EU Directive states that, by the year 2020, 10% of the energy used in the transport sector must be derived from renewable energy.

Secretary of State informs parliament on biofuels blending
Date published: Jul 6, 2012
On Monday July 2 the Dutch Secretary of State for Infrastructure and the Environment, Joop Atsma, presented the letter 'Follow-up elaboraton of the motion by Leegte et al (TK 32 813, No. 4) on the blending of biofuels' to the Dutch Lower House.
In the letter, the Secretary elaborates on the commitments made at a general meeting on June 7, 2012. The Secretary writes in his letter that a new Decree on renewable energy for transport will soon be submitted to the Council of State for their advice, and it will be published not before October 1, 2012. The Secretary has decided that the new Decree will not come into effect until January 1 2013. This means that the de facto annual blending requirement for the calendar year 2012 is 4.5%.
