GAVE
Climate neutral gaseous and liquid energy carriers
|
GAVE is a government programme that supports the development and introduction of climate-neutral fuels in the Dutch transport sector.
The programme's most important task is to support the implementation of the European Renewable Energy Directive into Dutch national legislation with respect to biofuels.
This EU Directive states that, by the year 2020, 10% of the energy used in the transport sector must be derived from renewable energy.

Honda develops prototype hydrogen refuelling station for the home Date published: Feb 5, 2010 |
Honda has developed a prototype hydrogen refuelling station for home use, which is based on solar panels. The hydrogen unit is the most compact system in the world, and fits into a normal-sized garage. The largest and most expensive component, the 'compressor', has not been included in the unit, thus making this system 25% more efficient than its predecessor. Electrolysis is used to remove hydrogen (and oxygen) from water. The system is then able to recharge a fuel cell car, such as the Honda FCX Clarity, with 0.5kg hydrogen in just eight hours. This is generally sufficient for the next day's journey from home to work and back. When the hydrogen unit is not producing hydrogen (because there is no need at that point in time) then this sustainable energy is injected back into the network. This results in financial benefits for the user.
