GAVE is a government programme that supports the development and introduction of climate-neutral fuels in the Dutch transport sector. The programme's most important task is to support the implementation of the European Renewable Energy Directive into Dutch national legislation with respect to biofuels. This EU Directive states that, by the year 2020, 10% of the energy used in the transport sector must be derived from renewable energy.

Four sustainability systems temporarily accepted in the Netherlands
Date published: Aug 10, 2011
The Dutch government has granted temporary acceptance to four biofuel sustainability systems from July 1 to December 31, 2011.

- The four systems are:
- Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS)
- International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)
- NTA 8080/8081
- BioGrace

Companies that have an obligation to bring biofuels to the Dutch market must prove that the biofuels meet EU sustainability requirements. In order to demonstrate sustainability, they may only use sustainable systems that have been approved for this purpose by the European Commission, or (temporarily) accepted by the Dutch government. Temporary Dutch acceptance can be given to sustainability systems that have been registered for assessment by the European Commission, or which have been approved by another EU Member State.

An overview of the temporarily accepted systems and the fields they cover, as well as information on European Commission approved systems, can be found (in Dutch) on the Dutch Emissions Authority website.
