Climate neutral gaseous and liquid energy carriers
|
GAVE is a government programme that supports the development and introduction of climate-neutral fuels in the Dutch transport sector. The programme's most important task is to support the implementation of the European Renewable Energy Directive into Dutch national legislation with respect to biofuels. This EU Directive states that, by the year 2020, 10% of the energy used in the transport sector must be derived from renewable energy.

Bioethanol plant with CO2 capture Date published: Jan 7, 2009 |
A new innovative bioethanol plant is being built on the Broeklanden industrial estate at Hardenberg. This will be the first European plant to convert biomass into fuel, while also capturing and recycling the CO2 emitted from this process. Around 80 jobs will be created at the plant, which requires an investment of around 50 million euro. The initiators and the Hardenberg local authority signed the purchase agreement for the land on 3 December. The plant will use the patented American GeneSyst process to convert the biomass waste into bioethanol. This production process converts cellulosic biomass into sugars, via a high-pressure cylinger (gravity pressure vessel) that is installed up to 700 metres below ground. The sugars obtained are then used to produce bioethanol. This is a American patented process that has never been used before in Europe.
