The programme's most important task is to support the implementation of the European Renewable Energy Directive into Dutch national legislation with respect to biofuels. This EU Directive states that, by the year 2020, 10% of the energy used in the transport sector must be derived from renewable energy.

Greenfuel kit makes Prius suitable for E85
Date published: Aug 8, 2008
The Dutch company Greenfuelsystems in Heerhugowaard has launched an E85 Greenfuel kit to convert the Toyota Prius hybrid so that it can run on ethanol. The company is offering an ethanol-petrol converter that, thanks to the latest technological developments, allows the car to run on ethanol, petrol or a mixture of the two. Cars running on ethanol can soon be refuelled at five filling stations in each province. The Dutch Minister Eurlings has allocated 1.8 million euro to this project. Twenty of these filling stations are currently operational, mostly run by Tamoil.
